FAQs

Which YETI should I buy?

Choosing the right YETI Cooler depends on your specific needs and the kinds of adventures you have in mind. Whether you have a type of ice chest in mind or are just browsing camping accessories for an upcoming trip into the great outdoors, youā€™ll find something worth the investment and one thatā€™ll last you season after season in the wild. If you're looking for a high quality durable, classic chilly bin/ice cooler to keep in one place whether that be a camp site, the back of the truck, or at home then you may look into our Tundra hard coolers/chilly bins. They offer unmatched isolation and storage space, perfect for those extended camping trips or outdoor events. If portability is important for you and you're looking for something with the ideal size so you can take on the go, then we recommend checking out our Soft Coolers, TundraĀ® Haul or RoadieĀ® Hard Coolers. For a detailed size comparison, check out our Size Chart, designed to help you find the perfect YETI, whether large or small, for your adventures.

Where are YETI Coolers made?

All of our products are labelled or marked with their country of origin. Some of our YETI TundraĀ® ice chests/chilly bins and all of our LoadOutĀ® Cargo are manufactured in the U.S. and are designated as such. You can find these products by checking their labels in stores. All customized products are produced in Austin, TX, San Antonio, TX and Monterrey, Mexico.

Are YETI Coolers worth it?

Value is subjective, but to YETI, it has always meant a superior product that will stand up to the demands of a life spent in the wild. For our YETI ice chests or chilly bins, this means an unfailing quality and the ability to let you stay in your favourite places longerā€”without having to worry about your ice melting or a bear going through your provisionsā€”which we think is worth every penny. Whether you're camping in the wilderness, enjoying summer events with friends, or out on a fishing trip, the peace of mind YETI coolers offer for outdoor living is truly priceless.

Is there a warranty?

These hard coolers come with a five-year warranty. We stand behind our products and are here to support you on your outdoor living journeys. For more details visit our Warranty Information page or contact an outfitter.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR YETI CHILLY BIN/COOLER COLD FOR LONGER

Keeping your chilly bin/cooler cold for longer periods of time can be challenging if you donā€™t have adequate knowledge on how to keep it cool. Here are some useful tips that weā€™ve found to help extend the cooling time for your YETI chilly bin/cooler:

  • Start with a Chilled Cooler/Chilly Bin
If stored in warm places, a significant amount of ice will be wasted cooling the cooler itself. Preload your chilly bin/cooler a few hours prior to use with a sacrificial bag of ice to cool it down, or store it in a cool place before loading it up.
  • Use Twice the Ice as Your Contents
Making sure you use enough ice in your chilly bin/cooler is key. We recommend following a ā…” ice, ā…“ contents ratio. This means that one-third of your chilly bin/cooler can hold your beverages and food, while the other two-thirds should be filled with ice. The more ice you use, the longer it will last.
  • Ice Temperatures Vary Significantly
Warm ice (around 32Ā°F) is typically wet or dripping and wonā€™t last long. Ice that is colder than the freezing point, such as from a freezer, is relatively dry and will last substantially longer.
  • Block Ice vs. Cube Ice
Smaller, cubed ice will chill a cooler/chilly bin and the contents more quickly, but block ice melts at a much slower rate. Most pros use a mix of both to chill cold items and achieve long-term ice retention to keep their cooler cold the longest.
  • Air is the Enemy
Large areas of air inside your chilly bin/cooler will accelerate ice-melt as the ice is consumed with having to cool the air, instead of your contents. If you do need to leave space in your cooler, they are best filled with extra ice, towels, or crumpled newspaper if weight is a concern.
  • Donā€™t Drain the Water
Once your cooler is in use, DO NOT empty the cold water. The water helps to insulate the remaining ice. However, exposed food and beverages should be kept out of the water.
  • Sunlight is a Heat Source
Keep your chilly bin/cooler out of direct sunlight when possible. Ice can last up to twice as long in the shade. Some pros even use tarps or towels to cover their coolers when they canā€™t find a shaded spot.
  • Limit Chilly Bin/Cooler Access
Every time you open the chilly bin/cooler, you are exchanging the cold air inside for warm air outside that must then be cooled, causing faster ice-melt. A bonus tip is to utilize a few pieces of tape on the top of your cooler as a ā€œchilly bin/cooler mapā€ to let everyone know where things are located without having to open it up and dig around.
  • Dry Ice is Best (Hard Coolers and Ice Buckets Only)
The TundraĀ® and RoadieĀ® Hard Coolers/Chilly Bins and YETI TANKĀ® Ice Buckets are all dry ice compatible; however, HopperĀ® Soft Coolers are not. When used in conjunction with a YETI Hard Cooler, dry ice can keep food and drinks cold and frozen longer than regular ice.
  • YETI ICE Supplement
Extend your regular ice with YETI ICE packs. YETI ICE is dialed into a temperature just below that of regular ice, letting it do all the cooling work to keep your regular ice from melting. Check out the YETI ICE Configurator to find which sizes fit best in your YETI chilly bin/cooler.
  • Bonus: How to Keep Ice from Melting in Your YETI Chilly Bin/Cooler Using Rock Salt
Properly fill your hard or soft chilly bin (cooler bag) with cans or bottles and plenty of ice.
Generously sprinkle rock salt on top of the ice.
Close or zip your chilly bin/cooler.
Wait 30 minutes and then crack open a cold one.

With the right ice, cold items, and some well-thought-out layers, youā€™re set. Be mindful of the ambient temperature and utilize all features of your YETI chilly bin/cooler to maximize ice retention.
